Shane's Visit to San Diego
Posted by MikeyMike at 11:54 AM on June 10, 2008 in Photography.
I started to post this Thursday morning, but VOX hosed up, and I zonked out, so here I am! ^^
My friend Shane from Florida came out on business, but had Wednesday afternoon free. I took the day off and met up with him in the Gaslamp District.
(The old part of downtown San Diego, that has been rehabilitated with fine entertainment and dining places. Wyatt Earp
lived there after the shootout at the OK Corral!) Shane was staying at the new Marriott
next to Petco Park
, the new San Diego Padres ballpark. He had the Presidential Suite, which was awesome! Fantastic views of the Bay, Petco Park, The convention Center, the Bay Bridge, Coronado, including the famous Hotel Del Coronado
, where Some Like It Hot
was filmed!
We went touring the local establishments, like Hooters^^, Cafe Sevilla
(yah Gema!!), Hard Rock Cafe
and the restaurant/bar that the widow of Jim Croce has called Croce's
... We had a *real* good time!!
Sleeping on the couch in the suite was moe comfortable than my bed! Especially with the magnificent HD 45" wide screen TV in there. I got up early and took a few pictures around the hotel and Petco Park. Shane had to be in Phoenix (where we were roomies many years ago) So we had a nice breakfast in the hotels outdoor restaurant, and I headed home... @@

My New Nikon D80 DSLR
Posted by MikeyMike at 07:01 PM on May 1, 2008 in Tech, Arts, Photography.
Just got my Nikon D80 DSLR
from KEH
today! I have to leave for work about 2:30PM on Wednesdays, so I was sweating the FEDEX delivery - he came about 1:30PM, so I at least got to receive it, and got a chance to look it over and charge the battery. It cost me about $650US in "Like New" (with everything, never used condition). KEH and B&H are about the only camera stores I would trust for this kind of thing. Too many scans out there today, especially for used equipment.
I fugured it was about time to get a new DSLR body. The D70 has given me great service and is still a very viable camera, but it's to the point where you can get a lot of nice features for not too much money now. Yeah, I would have liked a D300 body like everyone else, buy I didn't want to spend $1800 for that! ^^ All of my lenes and accessories work with it of course, except the D80 uses SD cards, not CF like the D70.
