Keara, born this October 1st. (a lil' Libra!)?

Living For Love

This just in! (12/5/03 07:07PST):
Found on

"Greetings! Yes, I have heard of Whyte Shadow, and I have a few of their CDs. I believe they are based out of California and were a christian band turned pop. Hmong is the language that is spoken by asian people from thailand. I have a few friends that are Hmong (very nice people). It's a very interesting language to listen to. It's strange, last time I checked, they had an official site, but it seems to have been taken down. Whyte Shadow is made up of 6 people, all of Hmong decent...4 men and 2 women. They are very talented and seem to have a lot of CDs available. I'm actually a bit in the dark about Hmong music also...as I've just recently been thrust into listening to some. On the whole I like it a lot. If you liked Whyte Shadow, there are other Hmong bands out there that have a similar sound. Try Da Players, KLS, and Loners. ^_^ "
Have you ever been on a downloading marathon and didn't get to look at everything for quite a while?
I found this song I love so much
and don't have a clue as to where it came from! I think the [946] makes it from an (early) Tabulas member. It only has the the song title, not the singer or album. Anyone know more about this one??
Thanks "[
946]" !
And thanks to the lovely Xin for finding the groups name, Whyte Shadow!! Give the lil' lady a Kewpie Doll! XD
On some of their other songs (Like Promise Me), I can't identify the language. Did I see a reference to the Hmong language somewhere? Perhaps Prettylady knows??

A Foggy Night in San Diego
Posted by MikeyMike at 01:51 AM on December 5, 2003.
Not
A Rainy Night In Georgia, but the San Diego equivalent I suppose...
This is very typical of San Diego: to get an onshore flow from the ocean as it cools at night. When the moisture and temperature meet (dew point), we get the fog!
It can be very severe at times. It had actually lessened by the time I went back home to get the digicam. This photo is from right in front of "my"
Marie Callender's in Clairemont.
Many native plants and even some animals here count on this for their survival. The moisture they gather this way... So it's hard to complain about the inconvience. Except when the traffic is backed up for miles, due to accidents!
I think
Vivian and all you other photo bloggers are starting to have an effect on me! lol

Divination
Posted by MikeyMike at 03:50 AM on December 5, 2003.
By then Death was on every card, Death and the Black Man, who had begun to mean the same thing. We fled him, and he followed, packed in the sandalwood.
As an antidote, I read Jung and Herman Hess and learned about the collective unconsciousness. Divination is a means of telling ourselves what we already know. What we fear. There are no demons, but a collection of archtypes every civilization has in common. The fear of loss - Death. The fear of displacement - the Tower. The fear of transience - the Chariot.
And yet mother died.
I put the cards away tenderly into their scented box. Goodbye, mother. This is where our journey stops. This is where we stay to face whatever the wind brings us. I shall not read the cards again.

Adam Gibbs Nature Photography
Posted by MikeyMike at 03:59 PM on December 7, 2003.
One of my interests (if not talents) is nature photography. Back in the day, I even had my own dark room...
Well, I can still look at the pictures, as they say... lol
I have been doing some photography in the last few years with the Nikon 6006 and now N80 35mm SLRs and new digicam.
Just picked up a photo mag at the bookstore called
PhotoLife. "
The Art, Culture and Science of Photography"... That tagline caught my interest. Most photography mags are mainly about selling more equipment or the same ol' stuff... like "
Do Your Nude Shots Measure Up?" ah yeah, right... Not surprisingly, this different kinda' mag is from Canada... (Oh, Canada!)
Anyway, saw this tremendous layout in there by Adam Gibbs. *Very* nice photos!! He has a personal web site at
Adam Gibbs Photography He is based in Burnaby, British Columbia. See what you think!
You don't necessarily have to travel far to get great photos. There is inherent beauty in all nature, especially if you're there at the right time. -

Wow, what a find! The ol'
Six Degrees of Seperation thing... You know that I am a fan of
Harlemm Lee, winner of the NBC Fame show this summer? Well on his Yahoo fan site, someone I know and respect on there (Rei) mentioned that she was also a fan of
Vienna Teng and her album
Waking Hour.
You can download music from her
personal site. I suggest her Song,
Gravity as a first DL. (right click to download it, otherwise it will stream) I also have
Gravity on my my Contents Tab for now.
I will post more about her soon...
Yaaaawn! Should be in bed by now, but my readers come first!!
Check her out, ya'll! Here's a chance to support a great, as yet not well known artist... She made a big splash on
NPR (American National Public Radio) She's made many appearances at colleges and other venues... She even appeared at a Rice Bowl Journal get togehter recently! XD

A bite of Chocolat
Posted by MikeyMike at 12:57 AM on December 13, 2003.
This is from the village priest mind you:
Looking across the square at the
chocolaterie, its bright window, the boxes of pink and red and orange geraniums at the balconies and at either side of the door, I feel the insidious creeping of doubt in my mind, and my mouth fills at the memory of its perfume, like cream and marshmallow and burnt sugar and the heady mingling of cognac and fresh-ground cocoa beans. It is the scent of a woman’s hair, just where the nape of the neck joins the skull's tender hollow, the scent of ripe apricots in the sun, of warm brioche and cinnamon rolls, lemon tea and lily of the valley. It is an incense diffused on the wind and unfurling softly like a banner of revolt, this devil's spoor, not sulphurous as we where taught as children but this lightest, most evocative of perfumes, combined essence of a thousand spices, making the head ring and the spirit soar. I find myself standing outside of St. Jerome's with my head lifted into the wind, straining to catch a trace of that perfume. It suffuses my dreams, and I awake sweating and famished. In my dreams I gorge on chocolates, I roll in chocolates, and their texture is not brittle but soft as flesh, like a thousand mouths on my body, devouring me in fluttering small bites. To die beneath their tender gluttony seems the culmination of every temptation I have ever known, and in such moments I can almost understand Armande Voizin, risking her life with every rapturous mouthful.
I said,
almost.
ah yeah, right!

On another subject, The parking lot at
UTC (University Towne Centre) shopping mall was maxed today! Poor ol' Yours Truly had to squeeze in between two badly parked cars and get out the door like a tube of toothpaste... Lord!
I was bringing in some film from the Scripps IS Talent Contest, two rolls of 24 with the
Nikon N80. . It was so busy that I couldn't get 1 hour processing! I hope to have some pics from that event tomorrow. However, there was plenty of Orange Chicken at
Panda Express! Yum!!
Something about the way,
words to describe you I cannnot say
I'm going outta my mind thinking of you at times,
Cause you make me feel so wonderful
My heart is willing, won't you stay with me?
Promise to love me for always
You know there's nothing, I won't do for you
I want you in my life, for always
You were made for my touch,
No one but you ever loved me this much
You are one of a kind, someone I'm truly blessed to find
So much happiness I've found with you

Wecome to the First Annual Scripps IT Department Talent Show!
Amazing how much talent there was. Many people here have had quite varied backgrounds it seems. In previous lives they had the performing bug too... Even my boss, Tom Liston performed! There is supposed to be a CD made soon - mp3s aren't out of the question! lol
And you thought us IT folk where just the nerds in the basement! What are your
talents? Tell Uncle Mikey...

Here's the pic from the lovely post card Gema (
Kir) sent me from Spain! Very beautiful indeed. Makes me think of
Rodrigo's Concierto de Aranjuez. Not too original, I know. But to me, some of the quintessential music of Spain. And the one everybody knows...
Many thanks Gema!
Check out Gema's new, muy bonita layout for the New Year!
We wish her much happiness in the coming year...
Just like the atoms of imaginary love
we keep on pulling back and pushing far away
but there are those things way too easy but are scary
it scares the world out of me
risking anything to follow all that I feel
where everybody's looking for the key to their one and only

Favorite Song of 2003?
Posted by MikeyMike at 05:22 AM on December 23, 2003.
OK, before all those Best of 2003 music programs hit, what is
your favorite song of the year? It doesn't have to be from this year, just heard it...
I would guess this choice would have varied over the year, and might be a passing fancy, even now... So, just whatever strikes you as the one that really moved you, that will mean something to you in 2006 - that kinda' thing...
UPDATE: Merry Christmas my friends! As the Weather Home Gurl (see bottom of page) clearly shows, it's a rainy kinda' day here in "Sunny" San Diego. But that's OK... Our version of snow!
Newly added Best of 2003... BEST CHEESY SONG! Come on! You know you have one... The uncool song that still gets to you. We won't tell!
Brought to you by the numbers 2, 4 and 7 and the letter "J"enjen! lol Moi? ... If I Never Knew You by Jon Secada from Pocahontas...
I'll start the ball rolling. And this is an end of year choice.... Perhaps this isn't a surprise to careful readers here:
Gravity by Vienna Teng.
I first heard of Vienna Teng from someone I admire for their musical taste. Vienna has a nice
web site with several of her songs ready to download. That is a very evolved stance in today's record industry.
The first song I heard was
Gravity. I listened to it several times. And then again. Got the lyrics... I love the "subdued passion" - if there is such a thing - of this song! How we need to guard against the forces that would undermine even a fated love...
hey love/ I am a constant satellite/of your blazing sun/my love/I obey your law of gravity
And as the saying goes, “Don’t trust anyone that doesn’t like to eat!”

And yes Zhi Wen, I like
Lullaby For A Stormy Night too!

There Has To Be A Morning After
Posted by MikeyMike at 10:03 AM on December 26, 2003.
Yes, Christmas has coming and gone again.... And it looks like a sunny SOCAL day! Our "Boxing Day" is the garbage truck (OK... Environmental Engineers) coming to take away all the packaging and goody remnants!
Hope everyone had a good Christmas and that we'll all have a happy and fulfilling 2004!
Should be a good day for post-season holiday shopping for some… I am giving a
Canon A60 to an off-line friend for their birthday Jan. 2… Boy, will they be surprised!

And yes, I believe that 2 megapixel is still viable as a first digicam, as long as the rest is up to snuff, as the A60 certainly is...
What did everyone get?? (I got coal and switches!)
Update: Corrinne May link with DLs per JenJen

And her website:

Beth Nielsen Chapman (
You Hold The Key) a lot...
And everytime you look my way

Make me want to dance
Make me want to cry
