It Is You (I Have Loved)
Posted by MikeyMike at 03:44 AM on May 3, 2004.
Sorry I haven't been keeping up lately... Lots doing at work... 7 large computers from LA are here - now!
But I just had to put this up! It's from Shrek (which I haven't seen yet!!) I heard it somewhere and had to have it. Took a bit to find a decent version, but I've got one for your listening pleasure... It's called
It Is You (I Have Loved) sung by Dana Glover. Never know what you'll find in a "cartoon" soundtrack!
There is something that I see
In the way you look at me
There's a smile, there's a truth
In your eyes
But in an unexpected way
On this unexpected day
Could it mean this is where I belong
It is you I have loved all along
It's no more a mystery, it is finally clear to me
You're the home my heart searched for so long
And it is you I have loved all along
It Is You (I Have Loved) by Dana Glover/Shrek OST
Update: Check out Joss Stone's
I've Fallen In Love With You. This 16 year old British lass kicks ass!

We are bringing in 7 new major systems at Scripps right now, including and IBM mainframe! There's whole lot going on, so I will have little time for the next month or so, especially. Please say Hi when you can, It pleases me greatly to hear from you all after a long, hard day!!

Again with the Pies!
Posted by MikeyMike at 12:03 AM on May 8, 2004.
I think those luscious Marie Callender's fresh fruit pies will be the death of me! (I can think of worse) At least my estate lawyers will have some ammunition with these pictures!
In the first pic, (estate lawyers please note) Mike is preparing to devour said luscious Fresh Strawberry Pie! Note the generous whipped cream topping!! Taken by ace Server Cathy, who is also a genuine Biotech Scientist! (And yes, she does wash her hands between jobs!)
Now, cast your ravenous eyes on the majestic Pie board. Like James Bonds' license plate holder, each pie listing can flip over when that type is gone. Pretty nifty, huh? You'll also notice that the overall board theme seems to have been taken directly from Disneyland's
It's A Small World After All ride!

Guess that was pretty chic back in the early '60's when this restaurant was built...

For Amanda
Posted by MikeyMike at 12:22 AM on May 8, 2004.
This is from the prologue to
Coastliners. It makes me think of Amanda on her lovely isle...
Islands are different. The smaller the island, the more true this becomes. Look at Britain. Barely conceivable that this narrow stretch of land should sustain so much diversity. Cricket, cream teas, Shakespeare, Sheffield, fish and chips in vinegary newspaper, Soho, two universities, the beachfront at Southend, stripped deck chairs in Green Park, Coronation Street, Oxford Street, lazy Sunday afternoons. So many contradictions. All marching together like boozy protesters who have not yet realized their main cause for complaint is one another. Islands are pioneers, splinter groups, malcontents, misfits, natural isolationists. As I said, different.

Random Pics
Posted by MikeyMike at 12:24 AM on May 9, 2004.
Here's some pics I took tonight, since I had to drop in to work and hit BookStar on the way home...
1) The first of three 31 inch computer LCD monitors we are getting to "monitor" all the systems we have and the new systems coming in. It has remote and spiffy hookups for a DVD player, I noticed!
2) How small a "mainframe" can be these days! Yes, it's an IBM S/390 mainframe - the cousin of the giant beasts that used to fold, spindle and mutilate your parents' electric bills! The black box is the computer system. The tape drive is the much larger tan unit to the right.
3) La Jolla
Bookstar at night - "Open every night till 10PM!" Nice to see what's new (and what's on sale!) Parking lot was still pretty full after 9:30PM when I got there for a look see...
Of course, the
Roy's "Hawaiian Fusion" (i.e. Expensive) Restaurant was letting out a group of kids apparently having their Prom Dinner, or something. Pretty funny seeing girls in fancy dress and their dates in suits and tennis shoes! (I kid you not!) Roy's started in Hawaii and hosted Lea Salonga and hubby-to-be more than once, we hear...
4) Some books pictures (why not?) People thought I was weird, but who cares?

Not using flash helps. For some reason, people assume that if there's no flash, there's no picture! lol Just need a steady hand... Anyway,
Midnight In The Garden of Good and Evil is a most excellent book! Very Southern (as in the American South) and literate. I love the cover on the pictured trade paperback version! Judging a cover by it's book!
Shanghai Baby and
The Little Chinese Seamstress covers got me that way too, I must confess! But you have to find the right versions though... You'll find a lot of references in my archives. Maybe it's time for me to go back and mark more favorites for your viewing pleasure? Make use of the history I've accumulated so far?
Founding Brothers is excellent too, if you are into American history. (Me, the wannabe History Prof.) The real lives of the "Founding Fathers" are much more interesting than the pabulum we where feed in school!
5) Memiors of a Geisha is a book you won't soon forget! The artistry, discipline and "people" skills it took to be successful are incredible. It's a pretty exciting story too. There is another book by the most famous Geisha of the modern period, -
Geisha : A Life - that has "issues" some of the portrayals in
Memoirs. Her book is well worth reading too!
I've read all the above books, but
Cold Mountain is still on my "to read" list. It was made into a movie recently....
Your eyes must be tired by now, so I'll try to get a few hours sleep before work!
HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!!

Song From The Heart
Posted by MikeyMike at 04:54 AM on May 10, 2004.
Here's a wonderful song from Linder Eder's Gold CD called
If I Should Lose My Way. I spoke about her at length back in the archives. Goldfish cracker to the first person with the URL!
A Beautiful lyric, sung in superb voice for one who needs to hear it...
As we turn our lives
Down this complicated road
If you need a hand to hold
I promise you
I will be your friend
Through whatever life may send
And I know that you will be there too
If I should lose my way
Along this road we share
Please bring me home, come-what-may
If I should lose my way

I was thinking to tell her that she (well, at least her car) was world-famous now on my web site! But then, in a moment of clairity, I thought she'd probably just mace me and take off!

I've Fallin' In Love With You
Posted by MikeyMike at 08:53 PM on May 14, 2004.
Been meaning to put up this song for quite a while! They had quite a few of
Joss Stone's The Soul Sessions in stock at my local Target. Quite as surprise, because that store is usually so (pop) mainstream. It must have a bullet on someone's chart! It's always amazing to me when someone very talented makes it, if they are out of the usual mold and not being pushed by a big record company!
Her song
I've Fallen In Love With You is simply spectacular for a 16 year old white British girl!! Or anyone, for that matter...

he/she is dreaming. Quite effective; the kiss
that never lessens and always blows your

(Love Moves In) Mysterious Ways
Posted by MikeyMike at 11:58 PM on May 14, 2004.
Wow! This is now one of my favorite songs! It was suggested to me by
Hershey
Listen here:
(Love Moves In) Mysterious Ways
It has everything: Production values, Julia Fordham's warm, rich voice, passionate lyrics...
Heaven knows
Love is just a chance we take
We make plans
But then love demands a leap of faith
So hold me close
And never let me go
Cause even though we think we know
which way the river flows
That's not the way love goes, no
Love moves in mysterious ways
It's always so surprising
When love appears over the horizon
I'll love you for the rest of my days
But still, it's a mystery
How you ever came to me
Which only proves
Love moves in mysterious ways

Posted by MikeyMike at 11:00 PM on May 23, 2004.
Sweet Vocalist's sexy animation pix can now be revealed to be inspired by the non-so-cartoonish gurl imaginings Rion Vernon of
Pinuptoons
Sexy, fun and cute, all in one!
from an interview with Rion:
How did you first get into Pin-Up toons? Are there any artists/ photographers/ movie stars/ fashion designers whose work you enjoy or take inspiration from?
Jessica Rabbit. It all started with Jessica Rabbit. Being a boy at the tender age of about 14, a voluptuous cartoon woman in the real world made my brain blow a fuse. I was determined to be able to draw her without looking at any reference images. From there I started to create my own style.
I have always loved the old pin-up stuff from the 40's and 50's like Gil Elvgren and George Petty. Then there are the cartoon influences through Tex Avery, Disney's Fred Moore and the SpumCo stuff.

Fantasia just won American Idol 3! Wow! Maybe I can put some of her songs on here.... I never get to watch this show 'cause I'm always at work! Yeah, I couldda' watched this time, but i was too sick, and occupied with more important matters!

Anyway, here's the scoop:
The Associated Press
Updated: 10:40 p.m. ET May 26, 2004NEW YORK - Fantasia Barrino’s fantasy of pop stardom became a reality Wednesday night when she was named the winner of “American Idol.”
Barrino grabbed runner-up Diana DeGarmo in a bear hug and twisted her around as tears streamed down her face.
“Thank you much,” she sobbed. “I broke my shoe!” Then she added: “I been through some things but I worked hard to get to where I’m at.”
Barrino, a 19-year-old single mother from High Point, N.C., with a powerful, gospel-tinged voice, topped DeGarmo, an effervescent 16-year-old from Snellville, Ga.
DeGarmo continued smiling through tears in defeat: “I’m so proud to have come here with Fantasia. She’s my girl and you guys will treat her well.”
The judges of the Fox TV singing contest had pretty much crowned Barrino the winner the previous night, when she dazzled them with a powerful version of Gershwin’s “Summertime” and two other songs.
But judges don’t pick the winner — America does, through phone and text-message votes. Host Ryan Seacrest said a record 65 million phone votes were cast, up from 24 million for last season’s finale.

Can I Walk With You

This India Arie
song was given to me by someone who sings my song so well...
India seems to confound all the labels, wouldn't you say? I also like her
Ready For Love...
I woke up this morning
You were the first thing on my mind
I don't know where it came from
All I know is I need you in my life
You make me feel like I can be a better woman
If you just say you wanna take this friendship to another place
Chorus:
Can I walk with you in through your life
Can I lay with you as your wife
Can I be your friend till the end
Can I walk with you through your life
You've got me wondering if you know that I am wondering about you
The feeling is so strong that I can't imagine you're not feeling it too
You've known me long enough to trust that I want what's best for you
If you wanna be happy then I am the one that you should give your heart to
