On The Wings of Love
Posted by MikeyMike at 10:31 AM on June 3, 2004.
Another Princess Emma! Her Mum sez thanks for all the kind comments... and can I organize a babysitting list! (j/k)
Yes you belong to me
And I'm yours exclusively
Right now we live and breathe each other
Insep'rable it seems
We're flowing like a stream running free
Trav'lling on the wings of love
On the wings of love
Up and above the clouds
The only way to fly
Is on the wings of love
On the wings of love
Only the two of us
Together flying high
Together flying high

Miss Saigon in San Diego!
Posted by MikeyMike at 11:22 PM on June 4, 2004.
I just heard that one of the National Road shows of Miss Saigon is coming to San Diego this coming week!!
Veteran Kim actress Jennifer Paz is in the show, so it should be great performance!
I met so many wonderful people early on the 'net (and even before there was an Internet for most people) because of this show! Back in the News Group days... Especially after hearing Lea Salonga (The first Kim) singing!!

Note to Self:
Posted by MikeyMike at 01:24 AM on June 5, 2004.
Couple a interesting movies coming to my local Madstone movie house:
MILLENIUM MAMBO: (from the site)
Cannes Special Prize winner MILLENNIUM MAMBO is a piercing record of the quickly shifting lifestyles of an increasingly modern world. An official selection of the Toronto, Chicago, and Rotterdam film festivals, the film tells the story of Vicky, a hostess at a trendy bar who is torn romantically between two men: Hao-hao, her neurotic and jealous live-in boyfriend and Jack, an enterprising gangster.
MILLENNIUM MAMBO combines Taiwanese director Hou Hsiao Hsien’s signature long takes and highly-refined sense of staging with a neon-saturated urban setting. Told in a non-linear narrative and lacking a central plot, MILLENIUM MAMBO is absolutely mesmerizing. It’s impossible for viewers to take their eyes off Shu Qi as she wanders in slow motion across a walkway or pushes her face gently into the snow. HHH envisions MILLENNIUM MAMBO as the first part of a trilogy examining modern Chinese culture.

Next up, The Story of The Weeping Camel Sounds, um unusual, huh? As a deja vu, I also saw it featured in my National Geographic Magazine.... Here's the plot:
The Story of the Weeping Camel follows the adventures of a family of herders in Mongolia’s Gobi desert. A crisis threatens the family when a mother camel rejects her newborn calf after a particularly difficult birth. Without its mother’s milk, the rare white calf will not survive.
“The camel baby wouldn’t stop crying, even if someone tried to feed it a bottle,” director Byambasuren Davaa recalls. “It is a heart-breaking cry, no one could bear it. The camel wouldn’t develop without its mother. Eventually, it would probably die from sorrow.”
At this point, an age-old ritual was the animal’s only hope. The nomads sent for a musician and the group assembled near the mother and baby to perform a ritual for uniting reuniting the parent with child. Legend has it that the ritual has the miraculous side effect of causing the mother to weep. The mother camel’s naked emotionalism, so human in its depth and manner of expression, echoes the feelings of the nomads.

L'amour Existe Encore
Posted by MikeyMike at 03:08 PM on June 11, 2004.
Talking to some one about my love of music sung in French... Well, here's a great example! Helene Segara has a marvelous voice you most likey haven't heard unless you live in a French speaking area! And Garou, his voice is gruff but always passionate... What a combination for this song Love Still Exists (in English).
This song is something of a French "Standard". Celine Dion and many others have performed it too. This is my favorite version though.
Quand je m'endors contre ton corps
Alors je n'ai plus de doute
L'amour existe encore
(When I fall asleep against your body
Then I don't have any doubt
Love still exists)
Toutes mes annees de deroute
Toutes, je les donnerais toutes
Pour m'ancrer a ton port
(All my years of confusion
All, I would give them all
To anchor myself to your port)
La solitude que je redoute
Qui me guette au bout de ma route
Je la mettrai dehors
(The solitude I fear
Which is watching me at the end of my route
I will kick it out)
Pour t'aimer une fois pour toutes
Pour t'aimer coute que coute
Malgre ce mal qui court
Et met l'amour a mort
(To love you once for all
To love you at any price
Despite that sickness that runs
And kills the love)
Quand je m'endors contre ton corps
Alors je n'ai plus de doute
L'amour existe encore
(When I fall asleep against your body
Then I don't have any doubt
Love still exists)
L'amour existe encore, , ,
(Love still exists)
On n'etait pas du meme bord
Mais au bout du compte on s'en fout
D'avoir raison ou d'avoir tort
(We were not on the same side
But after all we don't care
If we're right or wrong)
Les monde est mene par des fous
Mon amour il n'en tient qu'a nous
De nous aimer plus fort
(The world is leaded by insanes
My love it depends only on us
To love ourselves harder)
Au-dela de la violence
Au-dela de la demence
Malgre les bombes qui tombent
Aux quatre coins du monde
(Beyond violence
Beyond madness
Despite the bombs falling
Everywhere around the world)
Quand je m'endors contre ton corps
Alors je n'ai plus de doute
L'amour existe encore
L'amour existe encore
L'amour existe encore, , ,
(When I fall asleep against your body
Then I don't have any doubt
Love still exists
Love still exists
Love still exists, , , )
Pour t'aimer une fois pour toutes
Pour t'aimer coute que coute
Malgre ce mal qui court
Et met l'amour a mort
(To love you once for all
To love you at any price
Despite that sickness that runs
And kills the love)
Quand je m'endors contre ton corps
Alors je n'ai plus de doute
L'amour existe encore
(When I fall asleep against your body
Then I don't have any doubt
Love still exists)

Blogging San Diego
Posted by MikeyMike at 10:26 PM on June 14, 2004.
Wow! The Reader (The free local rag) has a story about Brian Dear, San Diego blogger extordinaire, with a big picture on the cover. See below...
He writes about San Diego, techo toys, movies and everything else. What I found amusing is that this blogging thing sounded like a novel idea to the writer of the story... As he pounded the article out on his manual typewriter no doubt!
Dear's site is a goodin', especially if your curious about how the local San Diego scene actually is... Kudos Brian!

Yahoo Email Deal!
Posted by MikeyMike at 05:41 PM on June 15, 2004.
Guess what? Finally got a paid Yahoo "Plus" email account ($19.95 for for a year - discounted from $29.95). Needed that space, plus you get other benefits, like no ads, pop3, 10mb file attachments, etc... Well guess what?? They upgraded me to 2 *gigabytes* of space!! o^O Now is a great time to go paid, if you're thinking about it... Turns out now that even unpaid accounts get 100mb now(!) But the extra features of a paid account still have many advantages, if you are like me, using Web Mail more and more...

Did The Greatest King Who Ever Lived Ever Live?
Posted by MikeyMike at 12:36 AM on June 20, 2004.
Quest for King Arthur narrated by Patrick Stewart.
History Channel, Sunday, June 20th, 9PM, 8PM Central
How much of the legend of King Arthur is just fodder for Monty Python? This program explores the myths and realities of the Arthurian legends... And how these stories impacted Western civilization... I've seen the "Making Of" documentary about this, and it seems extremely well done! You can watch preview video clips from the above link. Bravo History Channel!
And a new movie version is coming out soon:
"King Arthur" (2004)
Director: Antoine Fuqua
Cast: Clive Owen, Stephen Dillane, Keira Knightley(!!), Hugh Dancy, Ioan Gruffudd

Dear music-loving friends
Summer is here
I've spent the past two weeks with my parents and grandmother, who flew into town from Singapore
We lost some $$ playing slot machines, poker and blackjack in Vegas (!) ,spent a lot of time at the various buffets in and around Vegas (The one at the Paris hotel is the best!), saw the golden gate bridge in San Francisco, made loads of lemonade and did a lot of driving.
I've got two shows this week. The show at Kulaks is tomorrow (Tuesday) and you can even catch it online in the comfort of your home or office. Check out www.kulakswoodshed.com
I'll be sharing the evening with two wonderful singer-songwriter friends : Zachary Provost www.zacharyprovost.com
and Ernie Halter www.erniehalter.com
Have a great week!

Reading Yahoo Plus Emails from your POP3
Posted by MikeyMike at 11:58 PM on June 26, 2004.
Wow! All that means is that if you have Yahoo Plus (pay) you can read your Yahoo emails from your PC email progy, (like Outlook, Outlook Express, Eudora, etc.) This is like Bill Gates allows for Hotmail... Pretty cool to get all your emails in one place. I got it setup to my Outlook 2002, and it works fine! Another reason to get Plus.
You can choose to leave those emails on the Yahoo email server if you want. Handy for me, at home or at work, so nothing gets missed!
I think I told someone (Midori?) that all this wasn't possible... Mikey was wrong (again!)
On another note: Hard to read someone's Web page?? All those colors are sometimes hard to read. What to do?? Well, here's quick fix I found. On IE anyway...
Click on Tools
then: Internet Options
then: Accessability
then check: Ignore colors specified on web page
then click: OK
then click: OK again
Now it's just black on white. Very easy to read. And easy to change back! hehe

Calling Dr. Watson, Stat!
Posted by MikeyMike at 02:17 PM on June 27, 2004.
Funny name, huh? (It's not the Dr. Watson program in Windows) But it does act as a sidekick to Sherlock Holmes to help figure things out...
This cool site can measure how fast your web page loads. There can be a huge difference in how long it takes for people to see your web page.
There are many factors invloved, but the more that has to be loaded, the longer it takes, righty?? And if your stuff is loading from other sites all over the world, kinda' asking for trouble, si? oui??
Anyway, knowledge is power, so take a look at your page (or someone else's!) and see if it can be sped up some. One easy trick is to take all those pics from other sites and copy them to one directory on The Internet (maybe on Lightbox7??). Loads hella fast cached like that.
btw... I think Lightbox7 and maybe Tabulas servers where having problems last night. That's why Mike's hot dog was missing! ehem... And I thought one of you guys made off with it!!
So, here's the link to the Dr. Waston Page!

Dreams To Dream
Posted by MikeyMike at 02:37 AM on June 30, 2004.
I love this song! I've been a Linda Ronstadt fan for a long time, but it seems her voice just keeps getting better! She's done so much - pop, Gilbert & Sullivan (Operetta), The "Standards" with Nelson Riddle, Mexican music... Such a nuanced, wistful quality to this song...
She is from an old family of Tucson, Arizona. (Not far from the famous Tombstone) Her German grandfather married into a Mexican family of the town. Linda's family had the city hardware store for many years and her Dad was sheriff. As a girl going to Catholic school, she would write the answers to tests on her upper thigh, and the Priest teachers where too bashful to catch her at it!
I lose my way, no one cares.
The words I say, no one hears.
My life it seems
Is a world of dreams.
Deep in the night, you'll find me.
Dream and you're right behind me.
Stay if you will stay
We'll dream the night away.
Dreams to dream in the dark of the night
When the world goes wrong, I can still make it right
I can see so far in my dreams
I'll follow my dreams
Until they come true.
There is a star waiting to guide us
Shining inside us when we close our eyes!
Come with me, you will see what I mean,
There's a world inside no one else ever sees.
You will go so far in my dreams,
Somewhere in my dreams,
Your dreams will come true.
Don’t let go, if you stay close to me
In my dreams tonight, you will see what I see
Dreams to dream, as near as can be
Inside you and me, that always come true,
Inside you and me, that always come true.
