Hands To Heaven

Posted by MikeyMike at 12:25 PM on August 9, 2004.

Peggy found this song. It was originally sung by the group called Breath (All That Jazz). Christian Bautista is a Filipino from a show that is like the PI version of American Idol (I think) Hands To Heaven

Here's a site about him. This boy has a future!!

As I watch you move, across the moonlit room
There's so much tenderness in your loving
Tomorrow I must leave, the dawn knows no reprieve
God give me strength when I am leaving...

So raise your hands to heaven and pray
That we'll be back together someday

Tonight, I need your sweet caress
Hold me in the darkness
Tonight, you calm my restlessness
You relieve my sadness

Fan Ye

Posted by MikeyMike at 01:34 PM on August 22, 2004.

Well now that the Olypmpic Gymnastics are pretty much over, thought I'd mention someone you didn't see a lot of on TV.

Fan Ye - the young female gymnast from China is simply amazing to watch! She scored a 9.8 plus at the 2003 World Championships on balance beam, make her the "World Beam Champion". She didn't do too well at the Olympics, because at her performance level, it's so easy to falter. But if you want to see perfection, check out this video of her "World Beam Champion" performance. Wow!!

(Plus, she's a Scorpio too! )

Virus Writers Create Peeping Tom Webcam Worm

By Robert Jaques
08/24/04 8:41 AM PT

According to Sophos, the W32/Rbot-GR worm is evidence of a growing trend of malware spying on innocent home computer owners and poorly protected businesses. "With many home users keeping poorly defended PCs in their bedroom, there is considerable potential for abuse," said Graham Cluley, senior technology consultant for Sophos.

Virus writers have developed a "Peeping Tom" worm that can use webcams to spy on computer users in their home or workplace, Internet security watchers have warned. More

Sunset

Posted by MikeyMike at 02:28 AM on August 26, 2004.

We've been having some sectacular sunets lately! These are from our parking lot, looking out towards La Jolla and the Pacific Ocean...

So nice having the Canon S1 IS at hand. I just got the 1.6x telexteder, effectively giving me up to a 600mm focal length! The image stabilizer really works. Hope to use it at the San Diego Zoo very soon, so I don't have to climb in the cage with the tigers to get close ups!!

5th Annual San Diego Asian Film Festival

Posted by MikeyMike at 04:16 AM on August 26, 2004.

I loved going last year, and hope some Tabulas friends can attend too this time. It's in late October this year, but I wanted to give everyone a heads up to start thinking about coming out to San Diego. The weather is usually lovely then, and Mikey will be glad to act as host, and general dogsbody for those that can make it.

Southwest Airlines always has cheap flights here, especally if you make reservations in advance. Doubletree has a very good discount, and it's in the same block of buildings as the theater.

They should be making lots of announcements very soon, and I will keep ya' up to date. I think you will really enjoy this event! =)

Here's some info from the site:

Mark your calendars for our biggest and best festival yet, October 21-24, 2004. This year we celebrate our FIVE YEAR ANNIVERSARY. Since 2000, the SDAFF has gained an international reputation as one of North America's premiere Asian American film festivals for our excellent programs, outreach to the community, and support for independent artists.

7/19/04
Join us for a festival kick-off reception at Viejas Casino's Dreamcatcher Lounge on Thursday night, September 23rd. Free food, drinks, and clips of films at this year's festival!

Lisa Ling (formerly of the View), plans to attend the SDAFF to host a National Geographic Explorer program, Singer Vienna Teng confirms her attendance to perform at our Gala Awards dinner, October 23, and a new program this year: Music Videos!

Be sure to visit our site often as films and more will be announced in the coming weeks!

You Belong in The Zoo!

Posted by MikeyMike at 09:25 PM on August 28, 2004.

Finally got my butt down to the World Famous San Diego Zoo on Friday afternoon. It was a nice day, and most of the little ankle-biters where back in school, so it wasn't too crowded.

Yes, it is possible to fill up a 512mb CF memory card in one go! I forgot to bring my old 4x Lexar 512 mb CF, thinking that the super-speedy SanDisk UltraII (about 60x) 512 should be more than enough with 3.2mb pix. And it was, except for hi-res Video (640x480 30fps) eats memory like candy!! But I made it to the Koalas before the dreaded Memory Full came on, so all was well. Just funny to own two 512mb CF cards, and still get screwed! hehe... just have to remember to bring them with you. I got extra in camera case now, AND extra batteries, though these PowerX 2200mAh AA's seem to last forever...

So, without further ado, here's some Zoo pix!

Update: More pix Here

Panda Cam!!

See Mei Sheng's 1 year birthday celebration video! (First on right) Shaved ice: also know as SNOW - lol! Very cute

Olympics Torch passes to Beijing in 2008

Posted by MikeyMike at 11:31 AM on August 29, 2004.

This was quoted on MSN in an article about the closing event at the Athens games today:

With the Olympic torch now passing to Beijing for the 2008 Games, famed Chinese film director Zhang Yimou has promised to dazzle the Athens crowd with a “fusion of Chinese heritage and youth culture.”

He was not giving anything away in advance but said the costumes of the 270 Chinese dancers and acrobats were created by the costume designer for the worldwide-hit martial arts film “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.”

Among the performers will be 28 young monks from the Shaolin temple in central China, the country’s most famous training center for kung fu.

Friendster Fires Developer for Blog

Posted by MikeyMike at 03:34 PM on August 31, 2004.

Talk about "not getting it"!

I don't even mention my blog at work. How about you?

With Friendster like this, who needs enemies?

Friendster, known for breaking new ground in online social networking and promoting self-expression among peers, fired one of its employees Monday for her personal Web log, or online diary. Joyce Park, a Web developer living in Sunnyvale, Calif., said her managers told her Monday that she stepped over the line with her blog, Troutgirl. They declined to elaborate, except to say that it was CEO Scott Sassa's ultimate decision, Park said.
