Using My Yahoo for viewing RSS Feeds

Posted by MikeyMike at 12:25 AM on October 5, 2004.

Check this:

Don't know how well you can see it, but I have created some RSS feeds in My Yahoo. You have to have a Yahoo account ('natch) but that's easy enough to do... You already have a free Yahoo account for large file attachments, righty?

I want this mainly for non-Tabulas blogs, but Tabulas supports RSS syndication too - in the form: http://xml.tabulets.com/rss/USERNAME.rss

the username should be all lowercase...

So cool to see the lastest posts in one place. I like Yahoo, and all their stuff more and more. I was think that you w/o PDA's might like their Calendar and Address Book function amoung the many nify things they have. I I think Yahoo Messenger kicks ass compared to the others these days...

RSS info for LiveJournal

Posted by MikeyMike at 06:28 AM on October 5, 2004.

um, just sorta' storing LJ info... feel free to use it for your LJ Friends!! hehe... one type down. Now, I need Moveable Type infos....

FAQ Question #149
» Where can I get an RSS or Atom feed of my journal?
All journals on LiveJournal have both an RSS and an Atom feed. For personal journals, the feeds are located at URLs of the following forms:

http://www.livejournal.com/users/exampleusername/data/rss
http://www.livejournal.com/users/exampleusername/data/atom

In both cases, "exampleusername" is replaced with your username.

These URLs are used for community journals:

http://www.livejournal.com/community/communityname/data/rss
http://www.livejournal.com/community/communityname/data/atom

In both cases, "communityname" is replaced with the community's username.

Both types of feeds display only the 25 most recent entries. Protected entries are visible if the user requesting the feed is able to authenticate with LiveJournal and has permission to see the entries. This may be done either through your browser's login cookies, or by HTTP Digest Auth by appending ?auth=digest to the URL. That is:

http://www.livejournal.com/users/exampleusername/data/rss?auth=digest
http://www.livejournal.com/users/exampleusername/data/atom?auth=digest
http://www.livejournal.com/community/communityname/data/rss?auth=digest
http://www.livejournal.com/community/communityname/data/atom?auth=digest

For example, if you view your RSS feed in your browser while logged in, you will see all your most recent entries in it. However, someone who is not logged in, or someone you do not list as a friend, would not be able to see any protected entries in the feed.

Feeds include the subject (when present), the full text of the entry, and a link to the entry. Backdated entries (http://www.livejournal.com/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqid=91) will not show up in your data feeds.

RSS feeds provided by LiveJournal at the URLs above are RSS version 2.0.

Information about how bots may be used to read these files can be found at http://www.livejournal.com/bots/.

Nothing Safe from Rich, Hungry in China

Posted by MikeyMike at 09:52 PM on October 5, 2004.

Damn! :O

Tue Oct 5,10:22 AM ET

GUANGZHOU, China (Reuters) - In southern China, it doesn't matter if an animal is an endangered species. As long as it walks, wriggles or jumps, it's good enough for the pot.

To prove the point, visit a wild animal market in the thriving city of Guangzhou.

"You want to buy a porcupine?" a worker asked as he looked up from a half-disembowelled civet cat, which some scientists say is the source of the deadly SARS virus that wreaked havoc around the world last year, killing more than 800 people

Help from My Yahoo on RSS

Posted by MikeyMike at 11:28 PM on October 5, 2004.

Here's the RSS Help file from My Yahoo. Very complete. I read it at Denny's last night!

Those with non-Tabulas blogs, send me your RSS, if you know it. Some Blogging programs don't really let you look at their help files, usless you join.
I hear they have RSS reader programs for PDAs too. Then I could read ya'll on the road, and get updates from the local Stabucks!

And here's the way to add that new RSS feed to your My Yahoo page...

UPDATE: Can't find the RSS for a site?? Try This

Posted by MikeyMike at 04:19 AM on October 8, 2004.

Sorry to keep going on about RSS, but I found an easy way for other peeps to add you to their My Yahoo page with just one click! lol

Have Yahoo Generate it for ya' Here

Hehe!

Once again, Tabulas RSS format is: http://xml.tabulets.com/rss/mikeymike.rss
replacing "mikeymike" with your Tabulas username in all lowercase...
Then you can copy the generated code to your Tabs layout.

Malaysian Idol Winner!

Posted by MikeyMike at 01:03 PM on October 9, 2004.

I have no idea! Saw the link at Peggy's Tabs... Maybe they can fill us in. Or Lainie, or JenJen loves these kind of things... And I understand that Indonesian and Malaysian language is close.
So, what do you think of Jaclyn Victor's victory?

After 6 months and 10,000 contestants – we have a winner

You voted and after a search of more than 10, 000 contestants, Jaclyn Victor was named as the first ever Malaysian Idol winner, before a huge crowd in Arena of Stars in Genting.

After spellbinding performances the night before, the songs, ‘Tunggu Sekejap’, ‘When I fall in Love’ and ‘Gemilang’ sealed Jac’s destiny as a thoroughly deserving winner and the Idol everybody wanted.

Super-powered peer to peer

Posted by MikeyMike at 10:21 AM on October 10, 2004.

Even faster swapping (and better) coming?! Yummy!! You know, most of the songs I am interested in aren't even available to buy online. Yeah, I could order the CD from overseas, if I want to spend $30, and wait a month or two...
Here's some info on the latest peer-peer technology. I don't even charge (or sue you) for this stuff, unlike the record companies!

Have you seen Kazaa getting slower and less "hits" like I have??

StreamCast Networks on Wednesday plans to release an updated version of its Morpheus file-swapping software, showcasing new search technology that could dramatically strengthen peer-to-peer networks.

Morpheus developers are looking to recapture their onetime leading role in the file-trading world with a network technology called Neonet, written by a pair of former Harvard students.

Dubbed "distributed hash tables," Neonet's technology transforms the way that searches happen on peer-to-peer networks, potentially making it more efficient to search a much larger number of computers and more easily surface rare files. Similar technology is also used by eDonkey, a competitor that is on the verge of overtaking Kazaa as the most widely used peer-to-peer service in the world.

Which Les Miz Character are You?

Very appropriate with Les Miz coming to San Diego soon! Stolen from so-very Jean Valjean Hershey:

I'm Enjolras!
A person with a cause, I charm everyone around me with my revolutionary ideas (not to mention my natural charisma). Unfortunately, I don't have very good social skills, and my impulsiveness is liable to get me in over my head.

MSN fighting Messenger difficulties, virus

Posted by MikeyMike at 03:44 PM on October 11, 2004.

See, it wasn't just me! One side says "screw MicroSoft anyway!", the other "Oh, right. I use that too for peeps still on the Dark Side!"

People using Microsoft's instant-messaging software, MSN Messenger, may have been a mite lonely this weekend, with only a virus to keep them company.

The software giant acknowledged on Monday that it continued to battle a technical glitch that prevented MSN users from logging on to the service's instant-messaging system for the past three days. The problems, which several users complained about on discussion forums frequented by network administrators, caused several hours of outages on Monday morning.

Net mourns death of Christopher Reeve

Posted by MikeyMike at 04:02 PM on October 11, 2004.

Fans of Christopher Reeve have taken to the Web to express their sorrow over the actor's death Sunday. Reeve, 52, was best known for performing the role of comic book legend Superman in a series of movies--and for his battle against paralysis.

The performance of Web sites for organizations named after Reeve was clearly slowed Monday morning, as news spread of the actor's death, from heart failure. The home page for the Christopher Reeve Paralysis Foundation, which funds research for paralysis caused by spinal cord injury and other central nervous system disorders, was intermittently inaccessible throughout the morning. The Web site for the Christopher and Dana Reeve Paralysis Resource Center also appeared to be functioning with heavy traffic.

Who hasn't been screwed by the French?!

LONDON - France is well positioned as the world’s sexiest nation, according to a global survey of lovemaking published Tuesday.

In a poll of more than 350,000 people, condom maker Durex found that lovers across the globe are having sex an average of 103 times per year, but the French are living up to their romantic reputation with an average of 137 times.

Greeks and Hungarians followed close behind, with averages of 133 and 131 times a year.

Asian countries lag behind in the love stakes with the Japanese managing just 46 times per year and those in Hong Kong and Singapore just 79 times.

One Movie

Posted by MikeyMike at 03:50 AM on October 24, 2004.

Hi all! Been really sick, but I managed to crawl out of bed for the last flick of the (Saturday) night. When I got there, all the tickets where sold out for Two Sisters, the Korean horror movie I wanted to see! There was a Thai martial arts type film that looked pretty good, so I got tickets for that one - called Ong-Bak. But, apparently it was TOO popular! The film didn't make it to San Diego on time!! So (believe it or not) we had to watch the VCD version!! lol They offered to give money back, but no one left! It was really ggod! A bit cheesy, but amazing martial arts scenes - something of a cult film already!

Hoping to see Sunday - Steamboy, Arahan, and Josee, The Tiger, and The Fish a Japanese film I've heard great things about! That is if I don't have a relapse tonight!! I took today (Sunday) off to see some extra films, so I'm darn sure gonna' try!

If you're looking for reliable Asian DVDs, you might try SDAFF sponser Drunken Master! They are 100% not bootlegged. I am gonna buy some tomorrow. 10% off right now with the code "SDAFF"...
