Fighting Blog comment spam
Posted by MikeyMike at 04:36 PM on April 5, 2005.
Seems the major search engines and blogger software companies agree on something anyway... The need to limit the attractiveness of "blog spam" inserting urls into comments to influence their ratings on search engines like Google. Even Microsoft supports it!
For the gory details read
Here. How come they never interview
Roy?!
Plus: Six Ahead (Moveable Type) buys LiveJournal
Not exactly new news, but I didn't know this... A bit of blog consolation starting? Don't sell
Roy!
You know, looking at other blogging software, they seem more like programming than "blogprocessing" (like a word processor). So, to me, it's more like the cult of unix, where you need to know the incantations to get much accomplished...
Roy, please keep Tabulas simple. That's what the vast majority of people want - at least those that are gonna' stay and perhaps even appreciate that this excellent software is
worth paying for. Others will move on, no matter what you do... Some people just like starting all over again... they just do. Not to offend people that have "moved on", but there is a Tabulas type, I think. Like me! I want it simple and powerful enough to use "stock", but with some customizability... just as it is now, especially with the incremental improvements that we've been seeing!

Contacting iPod!!
Posted by MikeyMike at 07:18 PM on April 5, 2005.
Oh joy!! That holy grail for confirmed nerds (and nerdettes) is to get your contact data from your Palm Pilot in to your recently aquired iPod. Yeah, you can use the "vcard" one-at-a-time method (arrg!) or just forget about it (It is better on the Mac PC - because iPod has been on the MAC since the beginning, so more, betta' proggies).
But now, gentle readers, something that just
works for us Windows users! Read in bliss:
Windows: PalmPod 1.0 released
PalmPod 1.0 from Sappenin Technologies is a new Palm Desktop data exporter for Windows that enables you to transfer your Palm Desktop calendar, todo's, contacts, and memos onto your iPod. "Unlike other offerings, PalmPod allows you to choose the Palm data you want exported to your iPod, both at the Palm conduit level, and on a per-category basis," says the developer. "Now you don't have to settle for an 'all or nothing' approach when it comes to getting your Palm data onto your iPod." PalmPod offers support for Desktop privacy settings, and priority, category, and note/custom field support in todo's, contacts, and datebook events. More
What?!? You don't have a Palm? You can get used ones cheap. They are so handy. OK, if you have your iPod act together, well maybe. But remember that iPod has no input device, so... Palm Tungsten T3 is awesome! You won't regreat kissing up to Mummy/Daddy for a while to possess it... If you are really thinking about it, let me know...

Governor Back in San Diego
Posted by MikeyMike at 08:18 PM on April 11, 2005.
Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger was right next door today! At
S.A.I.C., one of San Diego's biggest businesses. I saw all the State Highway Patrol cars (like
CiPS - the TV show) when I came into work today at 3 P.M. There was the TV truck with the giant satellite antenna, and protestors... wtf! I guess they don't announce these things in advance for security reasons... There was even a guard in our building (next door to SAIC) to make sure no malefactors got in! Here's the lowdown...
At a town hall style meeting at the Science Applications International Inc. building in University City -- a defense contractor Schwarzenegger critics call a "special interest" -- the governor stumped for three remaining proposals: teacher merit pay, redistricting and a state spending cap. All face stalemates in the state legislature. More

Kung Fu Hustle
Posted by MikeyMike at 08:28 PM on April 14, 2005.
This one sounds good
and funny!

From Stephen Chow of Shaolin Soccer fame.. US: NYC/LA 4/8 - Wide April 18
Update: Friendster is running an ad for
Kung Fu Hustle right now!
from Rolling Stone
review:
He stands tall, looking ready to kick your ass. But Hong Kong actor-director-writer-producer Stephen Chow (Shaolin Soccer) is also just as likely to dance a jig and make funny faces. He's a one-man comedy parade. In the seriously cuckoo Kung Fu Hustle, Chow knocks himself out to please and also to sneak in a little social satire. Set in China in the 1940s, the movie takes deft notice of how the poor are exploited in Pig Sty Alley. Chow stars as Sing, a wanna-be gangster who's willing to step on the underdog to impress the notorious Axe gang, whose members hack up a rival before doing a musical number in top hats and tails. You get the picture. And if you don't, join the hustle. Nothing is safe from Chow, who spoofs the CGI tricks of The Matrix, turns his characters into live-action cartoons and then, miraculously, makes it all ring true. Does the plot spin out of control? You bet. But dumb fun this smart is a gift.

Another
review:
Kung Fu Hustle takes Hollywood by surprise
Hong Kong movie star Stephen Chow’s action comedy Kung Fu Hustle kicked up a storm when it opened in the United States last weekend, but left delighted film critics battling to describe it.
US critics raved about the film, set in a 1940s Chinese city that appears to be Shanghai or Hong Kong, but were at a loss as how to define its genre or even describe the high-kicking action epic. “A film in which Jackie Chan and Buster Keaton meet Quentin Tarantino and Bugs Bunny,” wrote respected American critic Roger Ebert.
Stephen Chow’s Kung Fu Hustle has delighted US film critics.
“It’s been a long time – you might have to go back to the Bruce Lee era – since a martial-arts film busted through the limits of physical freedom as wildly, and promiscuously, as Kung Fu Hustle,” raved Entertainment Weely.

Tabulas Ideas?
Posted by MikeyMike at 05:18 PM on April 19, 2005.
Roy is asking for any ideas and/or critisms for Tabulas 2.1. Now is your chance to tell him your brilliant idea or beef while "the iron is hot", so to speak... Some of my comments so far are that the documentation sucks (no one likes to write the Docs), and that he should create more pre-built templates (for paid users) that use many of the common add-ons people have, like Dodo's Agenda, etc.
Please, go put in your two cents worth

You know my rant about "alerting" My Yahoo right away when you update a Tabulas page? (I know you learned to ignore that kinda' thing a long time ago)
Well, when I suggested to
Roy that he add that as an option,
Ree was kind enough to mention that you can already do that (and more) with the Ping function (Preferences/Entries/Ping Options) Just enable Pinging, then add:

Save and now when you update your page, My Yahoo will know about it right away. Yeah!!

Vive les Blogs!
Posted by MikeyMike at 11:48 AM on April 24, 2005.
lol! Merci!
Spurred by a culture of popular expression and debate that can be traced back to France's 17th-century salons, the French are embracing weblogs with a greater zeal than anyone on the European continent.
Take a recent Paris warehouse party, which hooked up 200 local bloggers in person for the first time, an illustration of the European web's best-kept secret -- when it comes to blogs, the French can't get enough.
"The French have a long tradition of speaking loudly," said Loïc Le Meur, a Frenchman and Six Apart's European vice president. "We are the people who made the French Revolution, (the national uprising of) May '68 -- and just look at all our strikes! We always want to debate. Perhaps blogs are the ultimate tool for us to express ourselves."
So, while leading politicians like ex-Prime Minister Alain Juppé keep high-profile weblogs, just as common are citizen agitators like Christophe Grébert, whose daily diatribes against the way local politicians run his home town of Puteaux are so relentless that the town's mayor once had him arrested. Clay Goes Plastic
Posted by MikeyMike at 03:34 PM on April 27, 2005.
Pretty funny! You can get your genuwine Clay Aiken (American Idol) Debit Card with his mug on it... But watch those
fees!!
In an apparent effort to lure teens with the power of plastic, Mastercard has launched a new line of debit cards complete with American Idol season two runner-up Clay Aiken's mug across the front.
Called MYplash cards (an acronym for my plastic cash), the cards offer parents a way to teach their children about the responsibilities that come with possessing a credit card.
However, the apparent majority of Claynation was bothered by the fees bundled with the card. Aside from the aforementioned costs, the MYplash card carries a monthly $2.50 membership charge, plus fees associated with each reloading of the card.
"Guess it's good that Clay's getting some publicity from this, but no matter whose mug is on it, this card is a bad deal for any fans willing to shell out a minimum of $50 plus to get it," a poster mused in the ClaytonAiken.com forum. "Never figured him for 'everyone's doing it, I will too' kinda popstar...not my 1st choice for a Clay endorsement deal, & just because this one doesn't go over well doesn't mean Clay won't get other, better offers (for him AND the fans). Just shows that Clay's fans know a bum deal when they see it, that's all." More
