Scripps to Help Katrina Victims?
Posted by MikeyMike at 05:57 PM on September 6, 2005 in Congrats!, Scripps.
We heard that
Scripps Health might be asked by the federal government to send a medical team to the area affected by Hurricane Katrina. People are filling out applications, etc. in anticipation of an official FEMA/Homeland Security request to send a team. Scripps has a long history of volunteering in the comunity and in other countries - like the Tsunami last year. Scripps sent a sizable team there and collected lots of money and supplies. Sometimes, you are proud of the place you work at...
On another note... Our
Miss Monkee is graduating from High School shortly. Here's a cute pic of her taken during her last sporting event (something involving a cape?!)

Considering iTunes?
Posted by MikeyMike at 12:59 PM on September 11, 2005 in Tech, iPod.
Wanna see what iTunes offers before you install it, etc.??
Here's an online Tutorial that gives you a good overview (even though it's based on iTunes 4.5 - current is 5.0 - not that much has changed)
See iTunes Overview
Like this, for instance:
Sharing Your Music on Your Local Network
Have you ever dreamed of having your own radio show? With iTunes, you’re halfway there. You can give anyone on your local network access to your personal music library. You can share your entire library, or really “play DJ” by creating and sharing special playlists.
Other computers running iTunes on your local network will automatically seek out your computer and connect to your shared music library. Your shared music is streamed to the other computers, not downloaded, so others can listen only as long as you’re connected to the network and have iTunes open. They can’t copy your music to their library.

Scripps Medical Team is in Houston
Posted by MikeyMike at 05:34 PM on September 12, 2005 in Scripps.
Here's the latest from the Scripps team helping the Hurricane Katrina victims (from Houston, Texas):
We've arrived in Houston, Texas!
As you can imagine, planning and preparations has been rather hectic for the Scripps Emergency Medical Response Team. After a weekend briefing on Sunday evening, team members received a midnight e-mail notifying them of flight times. The team boarded buses beginning at 4:30 a.m. at the Shiley Center on the Scripps Green campus. Then it was off to Lindbergh Field where we boarded several different flights beginning (Read More)
By mid-afternoon, we were all on the ground and getting our feel for the area. During this time, I was able to take a walk through the 3-story, several-block-long Houston Convention Center. One hall of the Center is currently housing, feeding and otherwise caring for 12,000 evacuees from the Gulf area and the Center is set-up to handle more. The Center is crowded, but well organized with cafeterias, sleeping areas, education and services areas, some playgrounds for children and, of course, the large medical clinic we will be operating for the next two weeks. The Center even has a daily newsletter. The Clinic cares for the evacuee population housed at the Convention Center and is also open to the approximately 140,000 other evacuees that Houston welcomed to its city and are living elsewhere in the community.
The team tonight will be welcomed and briefed by Houston's mayor and sworn in as federalized volunteers. We then expect to receive a complete medical briefing. After that, it will be time to try to get a good night's sleep before an exceptionally busy day in the Clinic beginning at 8 a.m. tomorrow. We expect that work will be stressful and difficult as many of our patients will have lost everything, including some family. The Clinic is currently treating hundreds of patients a day - emergency care, acute care and preventative care, including vaccinations. Still, we are well stocked with medical equipment and supplies and our spirits are very high. It's wonderful to see the Scripps team ready and anxious to start work.
We have elected to not share the names of all our physicians, clinical and administrative staff at this time, simply to protect and respect their privacy while they're away from their homes. If you need to know if a specific person is on the team, please discuss it with your facility chief executive.
As we go about or work, I've asked members of the team to share their observations and experiences with me, and my goal is to provide all of you back in San Diego with daily updates on the team's progress and more. Until next time…

We'll have to make him an honorary Tabulista!

Scripps Medical Response Team Update
Posted by MikeyMike at 03:31 PM on September 14, 2005 in Scripps.
Here's the latest update from our Scripps volenteers in Houston. This is the real inside story of how Americans are selflessly helping in time of need...
An Update
Well, we are the medical team now for thousands of evacuees. For us, yesterday started with a team briefing, then a shuttle to the convention center. The medical facility was relatively quiet when we arrived, so it gave us the opportunity to tour the three floors of the convention center that is providing various functions to evacuees - housing/shelter, education, support, dining and others. We were then given a complete tour of the medical facilities, which are very large, with X-ray trailers, portable X-ray, a dental trailer, vision trailer, and pharmacy trailer, and curtained treatment areas - a fast-track care area, adult medical, pediatrics, trauma, mental health and a MASH tent for patient observation. All of this within the walls of a single room of the convention center.

The Boys, Donald and Quincannon just got "fixed" this friday. They are wearing those funny collars so they won't open their stitches. They have to wear these things for 10 days! They where really acting strange, due to the medication, I assume! Them walking around in slow motion with those things on was most bizzare! Fortunately, all they really wanted to do was sleep.... They are much perkier now!

Help Damsel in Distress! - Done!! ^^
Posted by MikeyMike at 07:43 PM on September 26, 2005.
Update: Thanks to all those who offered, but the lovely
Peggy already helped her! Now, you should be able to go see Michelle's RadioBlog selections (url below) Thanks again everyone!! ^^
Can someone help
Badbad_Zoot (Michelle) place her radioblog in her layout like mine?
I dont know how it was done either, since I had Eleanor graciously do it for me!

In the forthcoming Tabulas don't you think there should be predefined layout that includes things like RadioBlog for paid users pre-defined in it?
If someone is willing to help Michelle with placing RadioBlog in her Tabulas layout, please contact her at the url above. You will recieve the blessings of a poor medical student and bonus points from Mikeymike!

Meeting in Style

Sunday, I went to see my old roomie from Arizona. He is staying at the
Manchester Grand Hyatt , right by the harbor and
Seaport Village (home of the shop for
Left Handers). The place is great! I even got to go on a 4 million dollar yacht(!) for a cruise, care of one of the vendors at the convention. Unfortunately dumbass Mikey left the CF memory card in the car during the cruise. Others took pictures which they promise to share and will be promptly posted. Mikey on the fabulous yacht!

Took some more pictures when I had lunch with my old roomie Shane today. Another beautiful San Diego Day!! =)
Shane was telling me that when he came out from Florida he had to go by way of Minneapolis, instead of the more direct route through Houston because of hurricane Rita. Seems that Houston is back open now for his return flight tomorrow.
After lunch Shane had to go back to attend convention conferences, so I took the opportunity to stroll around SeaPort Village (that I mentioned in yesterdays post). I hadn't been there in a quite a while, but I found the "Southpaw" (left-handed) Store. Even got a birthday gift for a certain Tabulas leftie I know...
Hope you like the pictures!

My friend Shane. Yes, he's the one with the bluetooth headset in his ear. It is paired with oh-so-chic Blackberry two-way communicator. Beam Me up, Scotty!

This store sells flags for all major (and not-so-major) holidays. Does that happening in other countries?? I think it's pretty lame, but gives some people something to shop for, I suppose! Getting ready for Halloween!

The antique merrygoround was restored at great expense a few years ago. The detail on some of the rides is amazing! I dont know who the lil' girl is, but an empty carousel is no fun!

The view from Seaport Village looking towards the Coronado Bay bridge. Very beautiful landmark of San Diego.

Carousel Music Box Co. - they make the most exquisite music boxes there. Come and check them out!
