Payday at Scripps... Just kidding! I have no idea what was going on. From fellow Computer Operator Dave's new Nikon D50 DSLR. Takes darn nice pix!
I'm working today on this, the 4th of July... overtime anyway. BTW, I cant access most picture galleries, MySpace or Friendster from work these days.

Here's a couple of pictures from the current
National Geographic magazine.
The cover article is called Panda's Inc. - talking about the tremendious amount of money that US zoos spend per year to aquire pandas. And why they do it, since no zoo makes a profit on displaying them (cute as they are). Captive pandas are close to being genetically viable, even if something where to happen to the wild population. Excellent article! And I'm helping to support Su Lin at the San Diego Zoo...
The other really interesting article is about the sacrifices humans made to walk upright. Even with all the advantages this has given us, that is why so many people have back problems, problems with our very speicalized feet and why human babies are to dangerous to deliver. Most enlightening article! Check it out at the library or magazine stand.

When the Miss Universe 2006 pageant gets going in Los Angeles later this weekend, you will be hard-pressed to spot Nadine Chandrawinata among the parade of the world's beauties.
This Miss Indonesia is as tall as most of the other contestants, and as her critics say (and she readily admits), she does not look like a "typical" Indonesian.
Here's what she had to say in an interview when asked what makes her unique -- and different from other contestants -- in her broken English, which has become the butt of jokes in Indonesian blogspheres and late-night TV shows: "Perhaps I look like a Westerner, while I have Indonesian blood, and by law I am Indonesian."
When Nadine won the right to represent Indonesia at the national selection last year, critics dismissed her as an untypical Indonesian girl, and the wrong person to send to LA. Born of a German mother and Indonesian father (and some say with a tinge of Chinese blood), indeed she has a fair and European complexion and is tall by Indonesian standards. But she is, as she says, an Indonesian, by blood and by law.
